Díaz Goes Off, But Twins Win
|
The inspired effort of Tampa Bay first baseman Yandy Díaz was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-5, to the Minnesota Twins. Díaz was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Bert Blyleven, the winner, goes to 8-7. He allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Picking up the save was Joe Nathan. He's now 12 for 17 in save chances.
Cecil Travis, the Minnesota third baseman, contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 3-1, Twins. For the game, Travis went 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"The tide will turn," said losing manager . "We just need to keep our chins up."
Their 37-59 record puts the Twins last in the American League Central Division.
