The Detroit Tigers called upon starter Hal Newhouser, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Kansas City Royals, 2-1. The Tigers win now puts them at 46-48.

Hank Greenberg came through with a big-time hit for Detroit. The first baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-0. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
