The Atlanta Braves topped the New York Mets, 12-7, at Turner Field. Atlanta second baseman Marcus Giles was a spark plug for the offense. He was 3-4 with a triple and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5. Tom Glavine was the winner. He's now 2-0. The loser was 25-year old right-handed pitcher David Cone. Atlanta sits at 5-4.

With Atlanta leading 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth, Giles hit a curveball from Jerry Koosman for a bases-clearing double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Braves ahead, 8-4.

"It was great to come out and swing the bats," Giles told the Atlanta Chronicle.
