Dodgers Suffer 6-2 Loss to Padres
|
The Los Angeles Dodgers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Hideo Nomo into a win. Instead, the San Diego Padres prevailed, 6-2. Nomo came in in relief and pitched to 18 batters. The winning pitcher was Ed Whitson. His record now stands at 6-8. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits for the Padres. San Diego is in first place in the National League Western Division with a record of 55-37.
It could have been a different outcome for San Diego, had it not been for Brian S Giles, the 31-year old left fielder . Giles contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the first inning to put San Diego up, 2-0.
"Winning is contagious," said Giles. "We're looking forward to the next game."
