Phillies Chalk Up 8-7 Win
|
The Philadelphia Phillies did just enough to sneak past the Milwaukee Brewers, 8-7, at Miller Park. Philadelphia designated hitter Lefty O'Doul, in particular, had a standout performance. Picking up the win was Aaron Nola. He went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 1 and walked 6. Philadelphia, now 52-40, holds down first place in the National League Eastern Division.
With Philadelphia leading 5-3 in the top of the seventh, O'Doul batted against Milwaukee pitcher Dan Plesac. O'Doul hit a fastball to right for a 2-run home run. His 13th home run of the season put the Phillies on top, 7-3.
"I was able to square up some pitches," said O'Doul.
