Indians Upend Yankees, 9-5
|
Larry Doby, who is tied for 4th in the AL in bases on balls with 44, had a 5-RBI night to help the Cleveland Indians down the New York Yankees, 9-5. The winning pitcher was CC Sabathia. He tossed 94 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits. The first-place Indians, at 49-41, now lead their division by 3½ games.
With Cleveland leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Doby batted against New York pitcher Stan Bahnsen. Doby hit a fastball to center for a grand slam home run. His 11th home run of the season put the Indians on top, 5-0.
"Glad to go home with a win," said Doby.
