The 5-4 Oakland win over San Francisco was due in large part to Rickey Henderson. The Athletics left fielder went 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3. Oakland is now 53-36, San Francisco 51-39.

Oakland took the lead, 5-4, on Jose Canseco's 32nd home run of the season. The solo home run came off San Francisco pitcher Sergio Romo in the bottom of the eighth.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Canseco told the Oakland Citizen.
