7-5 Win for New York Over Texas
|
New York first baseman Pete Alonso contributed significantly to his team's 7-5 win over the Texas Rangers. Alonso, who is tied for 9th in the NL in extra base hits with 36, went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Mets. Tom Seaver, who went 7.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 5 runs on 9 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 8-9. The save was credited to Tug McGraw, his 2nd.
In the first inning, Alonso had a 2-run home run for New York. It was his 13th home run of the season and put the Mets on top, 2-0.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said New York manager .
With the win, the Mets have a record of 50-38.
