Reds Winners, 8-7, Over Brewers
|
Milwaukee shortstop Robin Yount was sensational. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Cincinnati beat the Brewers, 8-7. Don Gullett got the win, improving to 10-3. He held the Brewers to 3 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Rob Dibble closed the door for Cincinnati, picking up his 13th save of the year.
Joey Votto had a big 3-run home run for the Reds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Cincinnati leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Teddy Higuera, who is tied for 8th in the NL in strikeouts with 105, and swatted a home run to right. It was his 13th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Reds ahead, 5-1.
"Glad to go home with a win," said Votto.
The Reds are now 40-47.
