The St. Louis Cardinals overcame a good performance by Miami right fielder Giancarlo Stanton to knock off Miami, 6-4, at Busch Stadium. Stanton went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Picking up the save was Al Hrabosky, his 20th. St. Louis, now 50-38, holds down second place in the National League Central Division.

Rogers Hornsby drove in one run for St. Louis. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Hornsby, who is tied for 8th in the NL with a .305 batting average, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Miami hurler Kevin Brown, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Cardinals a 5-4 lead.
