Orioles Topple Red Sox with Late Rally
The Baltimore Orioles besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Boston left fielder Carl Yastrzemski by beating the Red Sox, 6-4, at Fenway Park. Yastrzemski was 3-4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Jim Palmer earned the win. Roger Clemens took the loss for Boston. The Orioles saw their win-loss record go to 40-46. At the same time, the Red Sox fell to 43-43.

Baltimore used the timely hitting of Mark Belanger to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Orioles on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

In postgame comments to the Baltimore Chronicle, Belanger said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
