Timely Hitting Gets Kansas City Late Win
Sam Rice did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Minnesota Twins from being beaten, 10-5, to the Kansas City Royals at Target Field. Rice went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 times. Joakim Soria, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-0. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 1 innings. Kyle Farnsworth earned the save for Kansas City, his 6th of the year.

Kansas City relied on the bat of Willie Wilson to get the win. The left fielder ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the eighth inning to put the Royals ahead, 7-5. For the game, Wilson had 1 double and 1 triple in 4 at-bats.

"We'll put this win in the can," said Wilson, "and go after the next one."

The second-place Royals improved to 43-42.
