Yankees Cut Down Rays, 6-1
|
The New York Yankees got a strong performance from pitcher Lefty Gomez, who stymied the Tampa Bay offense en route to a win, 6-1, at Yankee Stadium. The Rays, at 42-44, have lost 5 straight games.
Graig Nettles chipped in a 2-run home run for New York in the bottom of the second. For the game, the third baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
Tampa Bay manager was surprisingly upbeat after the game. "One of these days," he said, "we're gonna light it up. Even if it takes Willie Nelson to show us how."
