Marlins Lose, 5-2, as Athletics Rally
The Oakland Athletics faced a tough opponent in Miami pitcher Sandy Alcantara, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Marlins Ballpark by a final score of 5-2. Alcantara went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. Picking up the save was 35-year old right-handed pitcher Dennis Eckersley. The Athletics, at 48-33, sit in first place in the American League Western Division.

Oakland used the clutch hitting of Eric Chavez to snag the win. The third baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Athletics ahead, 5-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
