Red Sox Lasso 3-2 Victory
|
Though he had a great game, Babe Ruth could not single-handedly produce a win for New York. Boston won the game, 3-2. Ruth threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. The winning pitcher was 26-year old left-handed pitcher Jon Lester. He tossed 103 pitches over 6.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits. Jonathan Papelbon, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 20th save.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jimmy Collins? The 31-year old third baseman Collins stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put Boston up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"That's baseball," said New York manager . "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
The Red Sox now own a record of 42-40.
