More Bad Juju as Nationals Drop 8th Straight
|
The Chicago Cubs picked up a win at Wrigley Field, dropping the Washington Nationals, 5-3. Rick Reuschel, who is tied for 5th in the NL in complete games with 2, was the difference-maker. Kerry Wood earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record is now 3-2. Chicago is now 42-40, Washington 29-53.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Riggs Stephenson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg, he hit a 3-1 sinker for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 5-3.
"I'm never the type of guy that will go in there and flip the table," Washington manager said. "At this point, it's up to the players to say 'This is not good enough.'"
