Oakland and Miami got after it at Marlins Ballpark.

The Oakland Athletics rode a solid performance from 31-year-old starting pitcher Lefty Grove to a win, beating the Miami Marlins, 7-2, at Marlins Ballpark. Grove, now 7-5, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs.

Eric Chavez had a big 2-run home run for the Athletics in the top of the first inning. With Oakland leading 3-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a changeup from Jose Fernandez, who is tied for 2nd in the NL with a 9.1 K/9 rate, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 14th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 5-0.

"Lefty was pumping the zone," said Oakland manager .

The Athletics now have a mark of 46-33.
