The New York Yankees faced a tough opponent in Toronto pitcher Doyle Alexander, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Rogers Centre by a final score of 7-5 in 10 innings. Alexander went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. New York sits in first place in the American League Eastern Division at 46-31.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Babe Ruth came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Toronto pitcher Duane Ward, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 6-5.
"We're cooking on all cylinders right now," said Ruth.
