Tigers Earn Late 6-5 Win
Cleveland center fielder Larry Doby had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Doby was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once, even as Detroit beat the Indians, 6-5. Willie Hernandez recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 16 for 19. The second-place Tigers have a record of 38-37.

One big at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the ninth inning. Sam Crawford, who is tied for 6th in the AL in triples with 7, drew a walk off Cleveland pitcher Rafael Betancourt. The Tigers went on to win the game.

Detroit manager was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
