White Sox Bag 5-3 Win
|
The Minnesota Twins got a superb performance from pitcher Firpo Marberry, but the Chicago White Sox still won the game, 5-3. Marberry threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Ed Walsh was the winner. He's now 8-6. The loser was 29-year old left-handed pitcher Glen Perkins. Hoyt Wilhelm was credited with the save, his 13th in 17 tries.
It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Johnny Mostil, the 30-year old center fielder . Mostil contributed a run-scoring hit-by-pitch in the top of the ninth inning to put Chicago up, 5-3.
Mostil attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
At 36-40, the White Sox are currently 4th in the American League Central Division.
