Royals Knock Off Mariners, 4-3
|
The Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners played an entertaining game for Kauffman Stadium patrons.
The Seattle Mariners got a superb performance from pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma, but the Kansas City Royals still won the game, 4-3. Iwakuma threw 7.2 innings allowing 4 runs. The win was credited to Greg Holland in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Hisashi Iwakuma took the loss. Jeff Montgomery was called on to finish, recording his 22nd save.
The Royals got a big hit from designated hitter Johnny Damon. In the bottom of the sixth, Damon smacked a bases-clearing double off Seattle pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma. It was his 8th double of the season. Suddenly, the Royals were ahead, 4-3.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Damon told the Kansas City Today.
The Royals sit in second place in the American League Central Division with a record of 37-37.
