Chicago Nerve Tested in 6-5 Win
The Chicago Cubs did just enough to sneak past the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-5, at Wrigley Field. Chicago pitcher Hippo Vaughn, in particular, had a standout performance. The winner was Sean Marshall in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Deacon Phillippe took the loss. The Cubs saw their record improve to 37-36.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Chicago center fielder Hack Wilson, facing Deacon Phillippe, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Cubs the 6-5 win.

"This stadium was a-rockin'," said Wilson.
