Due in large part to designated hitter Johnny Damon, the Kansas City Royals sunk the Detroit Tigers, 8-2. Damon was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The third-place Royals now have a record of 36-37.

With Kansas City leading 1-0 in the top of the first, Damon hit a fastball from Jim Bunning for a 2-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Royals ahead, 3-0.

"We were able to put some runs on the board," said Damon after the game.
