Cardinals Subdue Mets, 5-3
|
The New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals riveted fans at Busch Stadium.
The St. Louis Cardinals beat the New York Mets, 5-3. St. Louis pitcher and Denton, Texas, native Max Lanier led the way. Lanier yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 0, and struck out 10. His record improves to 8-3.
Yadier Molina had a big 2-run home run for the Cardinals in the bottom of the seventh inning. With St. Louis leading 3-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a changeup from John Franco and swatted a home run to right. It was his 2nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cardinals ahead, 5-0.
Molina called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
The Cardinals improved their record to 39-34 with the win over New York.
