The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Minnie Minoso came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Kansas City pitcher Joakim Soria, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 2-1.

"Every time I step on the mound, I want to go out there and compete and bring my best game," said Walsh.
