Phillies Stick Cubs with 7-2 Loss
|
Philadelphia Phillies starter Aaron Nola turned in an exceptional performance against the Chicago Cubs at Citizens Bank Park, resulting in a Philadelphia win, 7-2. Philadelphia sits in first place in the National League Eastern Division at 40-27.
Mike Schmidt had a big run-scoring triple for the Phillies in the bottom of the first inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 30-year old left-handed pitcher Hippo Vaughn and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Phillies ahead, 2-0.
Schmidt attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
