Rays Sneak By Astros, 5-4
|
The Tampa Bay Rays dealt the Houston Astros a 5-4 loss at Minute Maid Park. Carl Crawford, who is tied for 6th in the AL in triples with 6, was the star on offense. He was 3 for 5 with a home run, a triple, and a double. He scored 2 times. The win was credited to fireballing left-hander J P Howell in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Mike Scott took the loss. Roberto Hernandez earned his 3rd save, after closing out the game.
Kevin Kiermaier helped out the Tampa Bay cause in the top of the seventh inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the center fielder was 2-4 with 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Tampa Bay manager .
At 35-34, the Rays find themselves in 4th place in the American League Eastern Division.
