Draft Class of 1901

12/01/1900

Top players in this year's draft class includes Eddie Plank, Doc White and three new players from the Cuban players; Jose Munoz, drafted by the Cincinnati Reds, Alfredo Cabrera, Boston Beaneaters and Regino Garcia, Washington Senators. The plan of this replay is to see how the players who played in the Negro Leagues, including some Cuban players like these three will do if they went into the majors. Many of the early Negro League players where from Cuba since the Cuban league didn't segregate players due to the color of their skin. These players brought black players down to Cuba to play in the winter. This practice went on for years, in the thirties and the fourties players like Josh Gibson would play in Cuba in the winter. In many ways the players of today have these players to thank for their opportunity to make it to the major leagues.
