First Month of Season
The season starts off with two double headers, the Chicago Giants host the Indianapolis ABCs and the Brooklyn Royal Giants host the New York Lincoln Giants.
May 2, 1920, Schorling Park, Chicago. The ABC's rocked the Giants Walter Ball for 7 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings on 9 hits. They continue to knock around Giants Luther Farrell for another 3 runs on 3 hits in a 10-4 beat down. Dicta Johnson threw a complete game for the win: 4 earned runs, 8 hits 3 bb, 5 K. For the ABCs; Henry Blackmon was 2 for 3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, and 2 runs. Morton Clark was 3 for 5, with a triple. Connie Day was 1 for 3, triple, 3 runs, 2 walks.

May 2 1920, Dexter Park, Brooklyn. The hometown Royal Giants pounded the visiting Lincoln Giants shutting them out on 5 hits and scoring 13 runs of their own. In the bottom of the sixth Bernardo Baro belted a McDonald fast ball into the bleachers for the league's first home run. Prudencio Martinez threw a shutout: 6 hits, 2 bb, 7 K. Gifford McDonald pitched 6 innings and took the loss: 1 earned run, 5 hits, 1 bb, 5 K.
May 24, 1920, Westwood Field, Dayton, OH. Visiting Indianapolis rallies with 5 runs in top of the 9th inning for a 5-4 win. Connie Day capped off a 5 run rally for the win. Dizzy Dismukes pitched 2 inning s and picked up the win: 2 IP, 3 earned runs, 4 hits, 1bb, 0 K. He's 4-1 on the year. Dicta Johnson pitched a scoreless 9th to record his fist save on the year. May 27, 1920, Association Park, Kansas City, MO. The home town Monarchs take 3 of 4 against the Chicago American Giants. 4-2, 6-4, 7-15, 4-3. Kansas City now 8-3 on the season. Chicago AG 3-5.
May 28, 1920, Washington Park, Indianapolis, IN. The St. Louis Giants blast the Indianapolis ABC 18-4. In a rare start Oscar Charleston was pounded for 4 earned runs on 8 hits, 1 bb and 1 K. Multiple Giants had great days; Brooks, Dudley, Holtz and Kennard knocked in 8 of the runs. One bright spot for the ABCs Oscar Charleston did hit an inside the park homer in the 4th inning, the third homer hit on the season.
At the end of the first month the Dayton Marcos and the Kansas City Monarchs are on top the national league while the Detroit Stars and the St. Louis Giants remain ½ game out of first. In the independent eastern league the Brooklyn Royal Giants are the only team with more than one win. Four of the clubs have yet to play a game. Cristobal Torriente of the Chicago American Giants is on top of the batting board at .486. Dayton Marcos Isaac Lane is second at .480. The Detroit Stars Edgar Wesley is top RBI man at 12. Dave Brown of the American Giants has a 0.50 era with two victories. Brooklyn's Roy Roberts leads all pitchers with 19 strikeouts in his two appearances.
