Welcome to Replay Baseball's "What If The Color Line Never Existed" website. Here we will explore the idea of major league baseball never having a color line. With the help of Dave Koch's Computer Baseball game we will include negro league players who came before Jackie Robinson. All of the Negro Leagues finest from 1901 all the way through until 1949. The replays have been broken into decades as show above. Click on them to follow how things may have been "if the color line never existed" .
We start in 1901 the beginning of modern baseball in the middle of the Deadball Era.
Our second decade is the 1900s, still in the Deadball Era but we add some key Negro League players to battle to Cobb and Wagner.
Our third decade marks the end of the Deadball Era and the beginning of the Rebirth of Baseball and Babe Ruth.
Our fourth decade is the beginning of the Golden age of Baseball. We will add some powerful bats to challenge the big boys.
Our fifth and final decade brings us to the end of our project and tests the record books.
My purpose of this project is to see how the greats of the Negro Leagues would have matched up to the stars of the major leaguers of their time.
We start this replay in 1901 the beginning of modern baseball. I am replaying games with the use of Dave Koch’s Action PC Baseball. I will replay all 49 seasons from 1901 to 1949 but with a twist, I will also include the top 75 Negro league players of the same time period based on research from the Hall of Miller and Eric website. They have done an excellent job of creating MLEs (Major league Equivalents) for Negro League players and measuring the quality of the leagues. For futher research I will also use the Seamheads Negro League Database. They have put a lot of effert into gathering data from the old Negro Leagues. One other I used a favorite website of mine in the assistance of creating the negro league players in the Dave Koch PC Baseball program, the Hall of Stats website. See the spreadsheet on the Ratings page for further details (mle tab). Please keep in mind what I am trying to accomplish here is "Reliving the past that never really happened".
